At the 2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, Portree Cellars was awarded medals on all of their wine submissions including a double gold for their 2024 Picpoul Blanc, a gold for their 2022 Teroldego and a gold for their 2022 Touriga Nacional. All of these wines are favorites in their Hye, Texas tasting room and represent some of the best 100% Texas wines in the state.

This wine competition is the largest and most prestigious in North America with 5,500 entries from 925 wineries across the globe.

Portree Cellars wines two gold medals at the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show Wine Competition for their 2022 Touriga Nacional and 2022 Mourvedre.

Texas Wine Growers, an organization dedicated to promoting 100% Texas produced wines, recently accepted Portree Cellars into its ranks.

Portree Cellars 2021 Dessert Wine garnered a 93 rating with James Suckling while their 2022 Mourvedre from Buena Suerte Vineyard captured a 91 rating. .

Portree Cellars wins big at their first entry into the Ft Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Vine 2 Wine Competition including 3 platinum medals and 1 gold medal.

Portree Cellar’s Picpoul Blanc won Top Wine at Texas Monthly Magazine’s 2025 Vintner’s Cup. This is the second year in a row that Portree Cellars has won a Top 12 wine award. 

Mourvèdre is a versatile grape and makes delicious wine.  Wine Business Monthly’s August edition showcases 3 Texas and 7 California wineries that produce Mourvèdre wines, including Portree Cellars.  Our 2023 Estate Mourvedre, our first estate wine, was honored to be included along with many outstanding wineries.

Texas Monthly Magazine selected Portree Cellar’s 2021 Teroldego out of 223 Texas wines to win top standings in this year’s Texas Vintners Cup, an annual competition sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Uncorked Texas Wines program.  The 2022 Fiano was also picked as one of the 18 Honorable Mentions this year, putting it in the top thirty in the state

Portree Cellars won ten medals at the 2024 Rodeo Uncorked! competition. Among the ten, three went to their 2022 Fiano from Pepper Jack Vineyards.

Portree Cellars won three medals in the International division on the 2023 Lone Star Wine Competition. Their 2022 Sangiovese Rose and 2022 Semillon took silver in their respective categories, while their 2022 Gewurztraminer won a bronze medal. The Portree Cellars founders are honored to medal in this competition, as it is the oldest international wine competition in the state.

Portree’s 2021 Aglianico joined the ranks of established Texas wineries as one of eighteen wines to receive an Honorable Mention by Texas Monthly in their October 2023 issue.

Portree wins three awards at the annual TEXSOM competition, including Platinum for their Aglianico, Gold for their Mourvedre, and Bronze for their Cabernet Sauvignon. The competition has been running for over 30 years, with 3,400 wines being reviewed and rated annually.

Portree Cellars featured in Texas Wine Lover, with the opening of their tasting patio. Reservations are available every Saturday to enjoy wine under the oaks with a superb view of the vineyard.

Janet makes her wine at Kerrville Hills Winery and is part of John Rivenburgh’s incubator program. She’s also completed the Texas Tech winemaking certificate. Janet loves spending time on the crush pad and in the cellar, making sure Portree’s wines are made with exceptional care and dedication.
